The Sojourn website is a massive piece of web space with lots of blogs, podcasts, video, and users. On top of that are 4 dozen modules and 120 tables in a database. It's easy to get lost.
That's evident by the fact that I've missed some basic search engine optimization techniques. These techniques used to be implemented on the old version of the Sojourn website. Somewhere between upgrading to the new site and messing with all those other time-consuming elements I mentioned before, I dropped the ball.
And I noticed that new visitors (both digital visitors and in-real-life visitors) tended to drop off over the last few months.
Now Sojourn is ranking in the Top 10 for "churches in Huntsville, Alabama" on Google.
What did I miss? Configuring our META tags; specifically our META TITLE and META DESCRIPTION tags. I've also implemented NOFOLLOW tags where appropriate in an attempt to sculpt our PageRank.
Here's hoping that this will help send more adventurous visitors to our website.
